GREEN LIGHT LITERARY CONSULTANTS
'Your work is an exemplar of our values' - Queensland Writers Centre
The 'Green Light''. I use that title because it makes me sound a bit like the 'Green Lantern' (minus tights).
I am an award winning author of 40 fiction and non fiction books for children, teens, young adults and adults - in every genre from horror to romance. I have over 20 years' experience working with agents, traditional publishers and self published authors and have edited countless manuscripts. I am a professional member of the Institute of Professional Editors and give literary talks and workshops to school children, teens and adults. Other roles include manuscript assessor and industry mentor for the Queensland Writer's Centre, mentor for the Horror Writers Association, Secretary for the Romance Writers of Australia Committee, ambassador for Australia Reads, convenor for the Aurealis Awards, Judge for the Bram Stoker Awards and peer assessor for the Australian Council For The Arts.
WHAT DO I DO?
But what do I actually do? For a start, I don't waste your time. I'm a writer, down to my core. So, I'll show you how to smooth out your writing and refine delivery, dialogue, characterisation and anything else bogging down your manuscript. I'll also make general (even sweeping) recommendations on how to improve the whole work. I might be brutal. Suggest plot changes and entirely new avenues. But I'm acutely aware that this is your baby, which you worked bloody hard at. That nobody stands out by slavishly following guidelines or advice and all analysis is subjective. I specialise in manuscript assessments, developmental editing and copy editing of novels, non-fiction books and short stories - but I'm an all rounder and can do anything you throw at me. Research. Proofreading. ghost-writing. Poetry. Essays. All the usual suspects.
I'll help you put together an effective proposal/synopsis/covering letter as part of my service. You may have penned a masterpiece but you'll still have to convince agents and publishers to actually read it. If you're self publishing, I'll assist with the descriptive blurb (just as essential).
If you're writing an essay, dissertation or short story, I can polish it up and rescue it from dryness, bombast or repetition. I repeat. No repetition.
For twenty years, I've endured a constant struggle to balance what I wanted to write with what others wanted to publish. Most times I won. Not always, though. So I know how heartbreaking and frustrating the process can be. But I'm on your side.
I am the Green Light. (Cue literary superhero fanfare, which probably sounds like a laptop being thrown against the wall).
